We have three enormous, challenging — but doable — tasks.
1 Stop burning coal, oil and natural gas -- we MUST leave them in the ground. 2 Replace them with solar and wind power. 3 Stop wasting energy by retrofitting every home and building on the planet.
It's gonna be one helluva ride.
Governments around the world have pledged to cut their carbon emissions by 80% by 2050. Far enough into the future that politicians don't have to lead and make tough choices now. This will not be sufficient.
We live in a time of climate war -- and it will require the determination, planning, cooperation and sacrifices of actual war. The time for individual and voluntary actions to end global warming has passed.

My name is Michael Sweringen. I have been a global warming educator for the past 8 years. Besides teaching about global warming, I teach high school biology and earth science to public school students in Brooklyn, New York. This is my 10th year at YCD High School. I spend hours every day making complicated ideas easy to understand.
I love singing (met my wife Anna in choir 28 years ago), I was a professional ballroom dancer in my youth, and I've been known to walk around Prospect Park before sunrise. The most fun I've ever had was to build my own small cabin in the Adirondack State Park. Now I want to turn it into a Tiny House according the Passive House principles. Life is good.
